MAKING
IN WOOD:
Ever since I was old enough to hold a knife I have been carving things and constructing work in wood. It wasn't until I had the unfortuitous occasion to inherit my father-in-law's wood lathe that I was introduced to the world of wood turning. I soon found out that with this form of MAKING there is no end to the length and breadth of gouges, lathes, jigs, and do- dads and also the variety of forms and techniques that turning can take. There is nothing like that increased awareness when approaching the inside of a vessel that is spinning at a 'whooshing' speed with a curved piece of sharpened steel, or wearing rain gear to keep yourself dry from the spray that's produced when turning green wood!
